I’ve always wanted my own space to make music. A space that felt as much like a home than a studio. Warm, inviting, intimate and stripped of all the intimidation that often come with studios. So during COVID I set to making exactly that.

With the help of friends and family I built Sole Canopy, as far as I can tell the worlds only Tiny House Recording Studio. For me making music is whimsical and romantic and the idea of building a Tiny Houses felt the same. I wanted my studio from the ground up to feel like a work of art so it we’d feel like making art when we were in it.

I got really into it not only building the house and the furniture but also the studio equipment. I ended up with a beautiful space that feels like so much more than just a studio.

Sole Canopy has found a cosy little spot between a bunch of studio and label services. From songwriting to production, mixing to release strategies. It’s personal, independent, niche, boutique, affordable and a whole lot of other buzz words I don’t have the excess word count to include.

I’ve spent lots of time treating the room & have modular baffles which mean we can record everything from a midi keyboard with the doors wide open to a small ensemble fully sound proofed. I also have a great selection of outboard gear we can record through for than analogue flavour.

Sole Canopy is a great place to film a live recording with way more vibe on camera than any other studio I know both inside and out.

Song Collective Spring Retreat

One on one song writing lessons are a great way to level up your writing. Theirs a weird belief that songwriting can’t be taught but it absolutely can just like any other instrument.

It can be intimidating to share your songs but once we get in the swing of things I guarantee your writing quality will sky rocket.

HOURLY - $130

Song Collective is a space to explore the art of songwriting with playful curiosity, thoughtful guidance and a supportive squad of likeminded melody poets. It goes for 6 weeks and covers the four key elements of songwriting and you’ll finish the course with at least one song finished but quite possibly more.

SIX WEEK COURSE - $400

Song Collective Spring Retreat is much like the Group but in an intimate weekend away experience. It’s a intensive deep dive into the craft of songwriting with time to collaborate, perform, film and demo your work. You will finish this weekend with some great songs and some great footage.

WEEKEND RETREAT - $3000

There are so many studios that offer a flat fee for the studio and a fee for the engineer and thats a great way to do business it’s simply not what I do best.

What I do best is creative relationships with a “yes and” attitude working on projects big or small to develop them into the best possible version of what they could be. We’ll unpack the songs and arrangements and take a deep dive into what you think shapes your music. It’s might be hanging out listening to music, or co-writing and pre-production, maybe jamming and session playing, or engineering and mic selection. Whatever it could be, it will definitely be us befriending the muse and finding the vibe together.
